Spellings

At Shiremoor Primary School, we follow the National Curriculum for spellings. A full breakdown and progression of spellings can be found in the English Appendix 1: Spelling.

English Appendix 2 includes progression across school for vocabulary, grammar and punctuation.

Read Write Inc. also incorporates spellings into the programme. Children practice age appropriate spellings alongside their phonics.

Rising Stars is also used to support the teaching of spelling in each year group.

Please find below a list of all the common exception words for your child's year group. These are in addition to the statutory spellings for each phase.
