All children in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2 are eligible for Universal Infant Free School Meals, but you must complete an application form to register. If you do not complete a free meal application form you will have to pay for meals from Year 3.
Paying for School Meals
Our catering provider has recently introduced the ParentPay system for school meal payments to replace JOINOS. You should have been sent activation details to set up your ParentPay account.
If you require activation details, please email: parentpay@northtyneside.gov.uk
It is important that you set up your ParentPay account as soon as possible even if your child receives free school meals as the system will be used to communicate important messages about school meals and updates.
Please register even if your child takes a packed lunch to ensure they are only coming in for a meal when you want them to.
The benefits of ParentPay are:
- Its secure; set up payments online to pay for meals
- Peace of mind, manage your account and see when meals have been taken
- Low balance alerts and auto top up facility are available
- JOINOS credit balance will be transferred
- No identification of pupils on free school meals
Benefit-based Free School Meals
To check eligibility for benefit-based free school meals you must apply online at www.north tyneside.gov.uk and enter 'free school meals' in the search bar. The school receives funding for every child registered so it is important you do this even if your child receives free meals due to being in Key Stage 1.
Please note you only need to apply once while your child is in Key Stage 1. If you are unsure if you need to apply please email student.support@northtyneside.gov.uk
Food Allergies and Intolerances
North Tyneside Council recognise the importance of making school meals available for everyone and that includes children with food allergies and intolerances.
They currently offer a range of diets including:
- Milk free
- Egg free
- Gluten free
- Legume free
- Nut free
If your child requires a medically prescribed diet you must contact Catering Services and not the school to make an appointment to discuss your child's dietary requirements.
Telephone - 0191 643 8355
Email - catering.services@northtyneside.gov.uk
In the interest of safety a mean cannot be provided for your child until you have met with a Manager from North Tyneside Council Catering Services.
A menu will be compiled for your child to suit the diet required and implemented with the Unit Supervisor in your child's school.
