Medical Information

At Shiremoor Primary School we are committed to ensuring that your children are safe and healthy. We need you to communicate regularly with us around any health needs and this should be done via the school office. We need to know if your child has any allergies, long and short term medical needs and also if they have any accidents that may involve a protocol being required for us to follow in school.

We have very well-trained staff and a large number of First Aiders however, despite tightly managed risk assessments and procedures, accidents do happen and we must have updated contact details. It can be distressing for children if we have to attend hospital and do not have any means of contacting parents. Please check each term that we have the correct contact details for you and any emergency contacts.

All teachers are made aware of any medical needs or protocols for children in their class and we have information in every classroom for any visiting staff. Children with allergies or asthma may have arrangements to be enabled to have their medication available in their classroom. Children with asthma should always have extra inhalers in school in case one inhaler runs out.

Generally medication that has to be administered up to 4 times a day should be administered at home however, where medication has to be administered at school, this should be handed in at the office and not given to teachers. This is to ensure correct policies and procedures are followed.

If you are unsure about any of the above information, please do not hesitate to make an appointment with the school office to discuss.
