Teaching School Alliance

Sharing our expertise

Shiremoor Primary School has for many years worked alongside neighbouring schools in the area to help and support teachers and school leaders. We have been asked to pilot many DfE programmes and take part in national and regional strategic reforms, particularly within our role as Teaching School. Our Head is an NLE (National Leader of Education) and has been an Executive Head of two underperforming schools in different time periods securing them stable platforms to move forward. As an NLE, she also works with the DFE to support schools in a variety of other ways dependent on circumstance.

We have a number of staff who are SLEs (Specialist Leaders of Education) and have supported other middle and senior leaders in their own schools in a variety of capacities such as team teaching, shared planning, mentoring, coaching, lesson observations, learning walks around school, deep dives for subject areas, preparing for Ofsted, using evidence based interventions.

Research and Development to improve the way we teach and the way our pupils learn

The Education Endowment Foundation partnered with us to roll out, alongside New York Teaching School Alliance, training for a large number of schools around their research-based recommendations for the teaching of English across Key Stage 1 and 2.

Developing school leadership and succession planning

Our hugely successful Deputy and Assistant Headteachers’ Conference and network has encouraged many Deputy Head's to take the plunge into Headship when they can then be mentored by one of our Alliance Heads.

Middle Leaders have had support in various formats via conferences, networks and bespoke training sessions. Often our SLEs will lead on support for middle leaders.

Headteachers benefit from termly 'training' sessions, alongside 28 of our partner schools, where we can hear speakers from Ofsted, NAHT, DfE and other educational experts and also find out about new and exciting initiatives and opportunities.

Working in partnership

Working in partnership is a key feature of our Alliance. We woek with many local and national organisations on a regular basis in order to keep up with policy change and educational trends.

We are constantly looking to bring funding into the area for schools. We also partner with EDnorth, looking at research opportunities for our schools to lead and get involved in.

We speak at conferences and offer workshops at their regional Schools North East CelebrateEd events held each summer.

Reading is our passion and we have worked alongside Reading Plus to create reading CPD for a number of schools. We have also been successful in drawing down funding to put this resource into schools for disadvantaged pupils.

School Direct immersive Teacher Training Programme

As a forward-thinking school, we are a great place for new teachers to learn to teach and, working in partnership with our partner schools we offer a great School Direct immersive Teacher Training Programme accredited by Northumbria University.

If you have some ideas about sharing best practice that you would like to discuss, please contact the school office. If you are thinking about Teacher training and would like to speak to someone about this, please feel free to make an appointment.

Please browse the ShiNE Teaching School Alliance website to find out more about the alliance, our training and support and how you and your school can become part of a group that is ‘stronger together’.
