Parent Engagement

At Shiremoor Primary, we firmly believe that parents and carers play a vital role in their child’s education. Children achieve their best when there is a strong, positive partnership between home and school. We are committed to working closely with you, recognising that education is most effective when we work together.

We aim to ensure that all parents feel part of our school community. Your involvement goes far beyond attending events or receiving information. We encourage you to be actively engaged in your child’s learning. We understand that teaching methods and expectations can change over time, and we are here to support and guide you so that you feel confident helping your child at home.

Throughout the year, there will be regular opportunities for you to learn alongside your child and gain a clear understanding of the skills and knowledge they are developing. We offer workshops and meetings to support you in key areas such as reading, maths, speech and language, SEND, and behaviour. Our popular “Book Look” sessions also give you the chance to celebrate your child’s work and see their progress first-hand.

Our teachers will keep you well-informed about the curriculum, home learning, and your child’s progress. If you would like to speak with a member of staff, please contact the school office to arrange an appointment so we can give you the time and support you need.

We provide a range of homework opportunities and ensure children have the resources they need to complete tasks at home. We also welcome conversations with parents who would like additional support or who may be experiencing challenges with home learning.

Your views are extremely important to us. Through questionnaires and consultations, we actively seek your feedback to help us reflect on and improve our practice.

Members of our senior leadership team are often available on the yard or at the gate and are always happy to speak with you. However, for more detailed discussions, we encourage you to make an appointment so we can fully support you. Open and effective communication is key to a successful partnership. Please also refer to our Communications Policy for further information. We also employ a Lead Learning Mentor, Miss Barnfather, whose main role is to support families in removing barriers to education.

We look forward to working together with you to support your child’s learning and development.

If you would like to speak to Miss Barnfather, Lead Learning Mentor, please contact the school office.
